A gold miner in Migori county has made a shocking claim that he is the husband of late Ohangla musician Moureen Achieng', alias Lady Maureen, who died on July 11, 2020.

According to the man, who identified himself as Jack for personal reasons, he and Lady Maureen married when she was starting out in her music career and lived together for six years before their separation.

Jack, a mine worker from Suna East in Nyatike sub-county, claimed that they met when both of them were singers before a fall out that saw her join another music group.

"Achieng was my wife even though I had not taken dowry to the family, she requested me to bury her if she died first and promised to bury me if I passed on before her. After six years of love, we separated and she joined Tonny Nyadundo’s band where she learned how to play Ohangla,” he said.

However, the family of the late singer has dismissed Jack's request, saying a number of men had been calling claiming to be Lady Maureen's husbands.

"Those are lies being peddled out there, many people are calling us with a similar request, but they have not come here to discuss the same, so we will not listen to rumours,” said Charles Ochieng', the brother of the late singer.

Lady Maureen passed away on Saturday, July 11, after battling hypertension for a long time. She spent the better part of her final two years in and out of the hospital and will be laid to rest on July 18 in Migori.
