COVID-19: Record 688 People Test Positive in 24 Hours

On July 18, 2020, the Ministry of Health reported a record 688 new COVID-19 cases in Kenya, marking the highest number of tests conducted in a single day.

According to CS Health Mutahi Kagwe, the surge in cases is attributed to people's behavior after restrictions on movement were lifted.

The total number of positive cases now stands at 12,750 from a sample of 238,163.

Of the new cases, 425 are male, 263 are female, with the youngest being a 7-month-old baby and the oldest being 95 years old.

However, on a positive note, 457 patients were discharged after recovering from the disease, with 401 under home-based care and 56 discharged from hospitals.

Unfortunately, 3 patients have died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 225.

The new cases are distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording the highest number of cases at 537, followed by Kiambu with 59 cases.

Other counties with new cases include Mombasa, Machakos, Busia, Kajiado, Kilifi, Laikipia, Meru, Tana River, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Bungoma, Isiolo, Makueni, Migori, and Narok.
