On July 17, 2020, Ohangla musician Lady Maureen's friends and family carried her coffin at Ojele Memorial Hospital mortuary in Migori County.
A mine worker from Nyatike, who claims to have been married to the late Ohangla singer Lady Maureen, has requested to be allowed to bury her remains. The man, a mineworker at Osiro Matanda in Nyatike sub-County, identified himself as Jack and stated that he was married to Lady Maureen for about six years before they separated.
According to Jack, Lady Maureen had requested him before their breakup to bury her if she died before him, a promise he said he accepted and wants to be allowed to fulfil. Despite not paying dowry to Lady Maureen's family, they both promised to bury each other depending on who died first.
However, Jack's request has been rejected by Lady Maureen's family, with her brother and family spokesperson, Charles Ochieng, refuting the claims. Ochieng stated that many people have requested to bury Lady Maureen over the phone, but nobody has actualised their request.
Jack, who met Lady Maureen at Princess Jully band, is pleading with her family to be allowed to fulfil a love promise made many years back. He is willing to bury Lady Maureen to honour their promise, but her family has declined the offer.
