Published on July 18, 2020, a meeting between Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Luanda MP Chris Omulele at ANC official Julius Ochiel's home in Vihiga went ahead as planned, despite initial attempts by local officials to block it.
The meeting, which was also a tribute to the late Nehemiah Ochiel, Julius's father and a former Kakamega mayor, was attended by Bunyore elders and steered by them.
ANC has since called a meeting to replace Julius Ochiel for hosting a leader from a rival party, but the Kakamega county boss and ODM official, Mr Oparanya, was not deterred.
He urged locals to shun opposition for the sake of development, and his meeting proceeded for about three hours without any interruptions.
County commander Leonard Omolo had warned that any politician who would disobey the ban on political gatherings would be arrested and charged in court, but Mr Oparanya's meeting went ahead as planned.
