On July 17, 2020, friends and family of the late Ohangla musician Lady Maureen carried her coffin at Ojele Memorial Hospital mortuary in Migori County. A man claiming to be her ex-husband, Jack, a mineworker at Osiro Matanda in Nyatike sub-County, has requested to be allowed to bury her remains.
According to Jack, he was married to Lady Maureen for about six years before they separated. He claims that before their breakup, Lady Maureen had requested him to bury her if she died before him, a promise he said he accepted and wants to be allowed to fulfil.
Jack, who works at Nyatike gold mines, claims that despite not paying dowry to Lady Maureen's family, they both promised to bury each other depending on who died first. He accused the family of rejecting his request to bury his ex-lover despite efforts to do so.
On July 18, 2020, Lady Maureen's body was transferred from Ojele Memorial Hospital mortuary to Kopanga village for burial.
