On July 17, 2020, the Kenyan government received a significant boost in its fight against COVID-19 with the arrival of 20 specialized Cuban doctors.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the doctors will be based at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) and will support Kenyan doctors in managing the disease.
"With the COVID-19 cases rising, these specialized doctors will go a long way in supporting our doctors in managing the disease and also in exchanging skilled development," Kagwe said.
The doctors are from the Brigade of Henry Reeve, a contingent of doctors specialized in Disaster Situations and Epidemics.
President Uhuru Kenyatta facilitated the coming of the doctors, making a personal phone call to Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to bring in the medical team.
The Cuban doctors will offer their services in Kenya for a period of three months, with a possible extension for another three months.
