On July 18, 2020, the music world mourned the loss of Lady Maureen, a talented Ohangala artiste who succumbed to illness at the age of 36.

Despite her popularity, there was much about Lady Maureen that her fans didn't know. Born Maureen Achieng on November 22, 1984, in Seme Kombewa village, she had been ailing for three years and bedridden for one year before her passing.

Her family, who reside in Kopanga village along the Kenya-Tanzania border in Suna West constituency, has been left to grieve the loss of a devoted mother of four.

One of the lesser-known facts about Lady Maureen is that she had been 'killed' twice by social media rumors in the past. In 2008, she was hospitalized at St Francis Community Hospital in Kasarani after falling ill, and in January, a false report of her death spread like wildfire on social media.

However, Lady Maureen was quick to dispel the rumors, taking to social media to assure her fans that she was alive and undergoing treatment. In her own words, 'I AM NOT DEAD. I WAS RUSHED HERE BY MY FAMILY MEMBERS WHEN MY CONDITION WORSENED. I AM CURRENTLY BEING TRANSFUSED WITH BLOOD. IT HAS NEVER BEEN MADE CLEAR WHAT I AM SUFFERING FROM BUT MY CONDITION HAS WORSENED IN RECENT DAYS.'
