Racing Point has been handed a three-week deadline by the FIA to prove that its RP20 brake ducts are not a copy of Mercedes' setup.

The FIA's decision comes after Renault protested Racing Point's 2020 car at the Styrian Grand Prix, citing concerns that the brake ducts were a copy of Mercedes' design.

Mercedes technical director James Allison has stated that the team is happy to cooperate with the FIA's investigation, saying, 'There's an argument between Racing Point and Renault and in order to settle that argument the FIA needs to seek some information from us because the dispute is about what brake ducts Racing Point are running.'

Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer is confident that the team will be able to provide the necessary evidence to prove that its brake ducts are legal, saying, 'We now have to put together the evidence to show that we're completely legal, we have three weeks to do that and that's exactly what we're working on now.'

The FIA has asked Racing Point to provide documents that prove its brake ducts are not a copy of Mercedes' setup, and the team has three weeks to comply.
