July 18, 2020, marks a somber day in American history as the nation mourns the loss of US Congressman John Lewis, a champion of civil rights and equality.

Representing Georgia's 5th congressional district since 1987, Lewis was a stalwart voice for justice and a beacon of hope for generations of Americans.

As one of the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, Lewis played a pivotal role in organizing landmark events, including the 1962 March on Washington and the historic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.

Tragically, Lewis succumbed to pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis he revealed in December 2019, when he announced that he had been diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer.
