Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja's night out turned into a police encounter on Saturday, July 18, 2020, when he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly, and for drinking past curfew hours.
According to the Kilimani Police Station report, Sakaja was arrested around 0155Hrs.
As reported by the Kilimani Police Station, the incident unfolded when the Kilimani orderly officer received information that Ladies Lounge, a bar within Denis Print, was still operating past curfew hours.
The orderly officer visited the bar and found Sakaja and about ten other people seated outside drinking. He was advised to leave but declined, prompting the orderly officer to call the Regional Orderly Officer, Mr. Asambasa ASP.
When the Deputy OCPD Kilimani, Mr. Adan Hassan ASP, and a team joined the Regional Orderly Officer, Sakaja became violent, raising his hands to be handcuffed.
He was arrested together with three others who refused to give their names for disobeying curfew orders and inciting others.
While in custody, Sakaja was asked to be given free bond but refused to leave the cells, threatening to transfer all officers within 24 hours.
