On July 17, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja found himself in a heated standoff with police in Kilimani, after he was arrested for drinking during curfew hours.
According to a police report, Sakaja was among a group of 10 people drinking at Lady's Lounge within Denis Print when officers arrived to enforce the curfew guidelines.
Despite being asked to leave, Sakaja defied the order, prompting the police to call in their seniors. Kilimani sub County police commander Adan Hassan was among those who arrived at the scene, but Sakaja still refused to comply.
As the situation escalated, Sakaja allegedly became violent, raising his hands to be handcuffed, and even incited others to resist the police.
As a result, Sakaja was arrested, along with three others who refused to give their names, for disobeying curfew orders and inciting others.
While in custody, Sakaja was released on free bond, but he refused to leave the police cells, threatening to transfer all the officers at the station within 24 hours.
However, Sakaja has since been released.
