Kenyan television star Charles Bukeko, popularly known as Papa Shirandula, died in Nairobi on Saturday morning, July 18, 2020.

According to his brother-in-law Ronald Wanyama, Shirandula had tested positive for Covid-19 and experienced difficulty in breathing before being rushed to the Karen Hospital.

"It is sad he didn’t make it out of the hospital alive," Wanyama said, adding that the TV star had travelled to Western and returned to Nairobi on Sunday before falling ill.

Shirandula was the main actor in the Citizen TV comedy series 'Papa Shirandula' and had won the Kalasha Award for ‘Best Actor in a TV Series’ in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Beatrice and three children.
