On July 6, Dr Lukoye Atwoli, a professor of psychiatry with extensive leadership experience, was appointed as the Dean of Medical College at Agha Khan University.
Dr Atwoli, son of COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, will join the university on August 1, 2020, bringing with him over 50 publications in academic books and peer-reviewed journals.
According to the university's announcement, Dr Atwoli is a significant influencer of mental health policy in Kenya and on the continent, and will lead COVID-19 research efforts at the university.
Dr Atwoli holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Moi University, a Master of Medicine in Psychiatry from the University of Nairobi, and a PhD from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
He is also a visiting scientist at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and an honorary associate professor at the University of Cape Town.
Dr Atwoli's appointment was announced on July 6, 2020, and was shared on the university's website and social media pages.
