On July 17, 2020, a couple's alleged avocado export business turned sour when they were charged with defrauding a company Sh 18.5 million.
Nathan Loyd Ndungu and Jennifer Mukonyo Mbogo, directors of Avoveg Health Kenya Limited, are accused of conspiring to defraud the company by falsely pretending they could partner in the financing of an avocado export business.
The couple allegedly obtained Sh 18,500,000 and issued over ten bad cheques worth Sh 990,000 each.
According to the charges, the couple committed the offences between March and April 2020.
During a court hearing, the couple denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.
Their lawyer requested bail, citing the couple's status as parents of young children and their fixed abode.
However, the prosecution objected to bail, citing the couple's flight risk.
The court will deliver a ruling on bail on Monday, July 20, 2020, after a probation officer submits a pre-bail report.
