On Friday, July 17, 2020, a young woman from Elburgon, Nakuru County, had the rare opportunity to speak with President Uhuru Kenyatta on the phone.
According to a video shared by NTV, the woman, identified as Ann Wanjiru, was a beneficiary of the Kazi Mtaani initiative, a program aimed at providing temporary employment to young people.
Wanjiru praised the program, stating that it had helped many young people from her locality.
She requested that President Kenyatta extend her job, which was supposed to last for 11 more days. However, the President explained that the program was designed to help as many young people as possible, and that after 11 days, the opportunity could be given to others.
Wanjiru wished she could meet the President in person and asked if she could speak with him through a video call. President Kenyatta promised to think about it.
He also promised to visit Elburgon in the future to witness the progress of the Kazi Mtaani initiative.
President Kenyatta has reiterated the importance of the Kazi Mtaani project and warned government officials against misusing it for political gain.
