On Thursday, July 16, at 10pm, a disturbing scene unfolded at the Agricultural Training Centre in Busia, where a COVID-19 patient was being held in quarantine.

According to a police report filed at the Busia Police Station at 00:30am on Friday, July 17, Police Constable Emmanuel Ng'etich, one of the prison warders manning the facility, began engaging the COVID-19 patient in a conversation, which soon escalated into a sexual encounter.

Another prison warder, Police Constable Jeff Obondo, who was puzzled by Ng'etich's actions, informed his colleagues, prompting a group of officers to investigate.

As they searched for Ng'etich and the COVID-19 patient, they heard noise and commotion emanating from the women's ward, where they found all the female patients outside, complaining that Ng'etich was raping the lady he had earlier struck a conversation with.

When authorities entered the woman's room, they found her and Ng'etich naked in bed.

However, one of the women quarantined at the facility later told police that the COVID-19 patient had consented to sexual intercourse with Ng'etich, but only changed her narrative when she learnt that the other female COVID-19 patients in the ward had known what she and the cop were doing.

Police Constable Ng'etich has since been arrested and quarantined at the same facility, with his firearm confiscated by senior officers from the Busia GK Prison. His samples have also been taken for coronavirus testing.
