Published on July 17, 2020, Herman Manyora, a University of Nairobi don, has advised the Handshake Team to consider Raila Odinga as their candidate for the 2022 elections.
According to Manyora, Raila is the only person who can beat Deputy President William Ruto, who he describes as not a candidate to be wished away.
Manyora argues that Ruto has weathered many storms and will require the steady and experienced hands of a seasoned leader to defeat him.
He believes Raila, who has weathered many political storms and has fought many wars, is battle-hardened and should be trusted to brush Ruto aside.
Manyora points out that Raila's performance in the past three elections (2007, 2013, and 2017) puts him way ahead of other potential candidates to take on Ruto.
He also believes that Raila does not need President Uhuru Kenyatta's help to beat Ruto, and that a fair playing field would be sufficient for him to win.
However, Raila has declined to declare whether he would be running for Presidency in 2022.
