On Friday morning, Montreal Impact faced off against Toronto FC in the Canadian Classico at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida. The match ended in a 4-3 victory for Toronto FC, with Ayomide Akinola scoring a hat-trick and Richie Laryea adding another goal for the winning team.
Montreal Impact's goals were courtesy of a brace from Algerian midfielder Saphir Taider and Romell Robinson. Despite the loss, Montreal Impact's coach Thierry Henry praised the team's performance, singling out Victor Wanyama as one of the players who performed well.
‘We lacked concentration and mistakes at the back cost us. We scored three goals and had many chances to win the game but we just couldn’t. You can’t concede four and expect to win,’ Henry said after the match.
Henry also explained the team's strategy of changing their defense in every game since the MLS resumed, stating, ‘We are trying to find the right formula using different options but unfortunately it didn’t work out. We lost the game and it’s a tough one to take since it is a derby but hopefully we can rectify that in our next match.'
Victor Wanyama had a good game at the back, trying to rectify things, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. The team will look to bounce back in their next match against D.C United on Wednesday morning.
