Homa Bay Woman Representative Hon Gladys Wanga has made history by becoming the first woman to chair the Finance and Planning Committee in the National Assembly.

According to her social media post, this is a 'big win for women's leadership' as she becomes the first woman to hold this powerful position since independence.

She succeeds Hon Joseph Limo, who was removed from the position allegedly over political affiliations.

Wanga, a renowned ODM legislator, also thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and her party leader Hon Raila Odinga for their support.

She took to Twitter to celebrate her big appointment, saying 'A big win for women's leadership as this is the first time in the history of the Kenyan Parliament that a woman chairs the Finance and National Planning Committee #Bunge.'

Wanga's appointment is a testament to her dedication and hard work, having previously been the first female Secretary-General of Kenyatta University's students council back in 2003 and the first Woman Rep of Homa County ten years later.
