COVID-19 Cases in Kenya Surpass 12,000

On July 17, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 389 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total to 12,062.

The new infections were detected in 3,545 samples tested between Thursday and Friday, with 260 of the new patients being male and 129 female.

Among the new cases, 385 were Kenyans, and four were foreigners. The youngest patient was a 5-month-old baby, while the oldest was 95 years old.

Unfortunately, five more patients succumbed to the coronavirus, increasing Kenya's death toll to 222. Four of the deceased had underlying medical conditions, including diabetes, according to CS Kagwe.

As of July 17, 2020, Kenya had tested 233,641 samples for COVID-19.
