Published on July 17, 2020, a bodyguard attached to Mombasa County Governor Hassan Ali Joho has tested positive for Covid-19 in Nairobi.
The bodyguard, one of four guards assigned to the governor, contracted the virus while in the capital city. He had been stationed in Nairobi in preparation for accompanying his boss to Dubai to visit ODM leader Raila Odinga.
According to sources, the bodyguard had been seen with the governor in Nairobi during Senate hearings and tested positive after the sessions.
Although the governor and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed jetted out of the country without him, the bodyguard's condition was not immediately reported to the governor's chief of staff, Joab Tumbo.
"I am not aware of the issue. But let me find out and get back," Tumbo said, adding that Mombasa Beach Hotel, where the bodyguard is quarantined, is a government facility and he would have been informed if there were any issues.
The governor undergoes routine COVID-19 testing every two weeks, and his last examination was a few days before July 9.
