July 17, 2020, Nairobi, Kenya - The internet has become an essential tool for start-ups in Kenya, providing a level playing field and making more things accessible to new businesses.

Kevin Rakama, founder of Corido Marketplace, an online trading platform that connects sellers and buyers, spoke to Rading Biko about his experience with technology.

Rakama started his internet-based start-up due to the tremendous growth and improved internet connectivity in Kenya, as well as the rapidly expanding market within the region that needed a secure and one-stop online service.

However, technology also comes with challenges, such as cybercrime issues like online fraud. Rakama's company has invested heavily in firewalls and placed high-level security measures to ensure the security and integrity of both buyers and sellers using the platform.

Corido Marketplace is a self-service platform for both buyers and sellers, with a team structured to ensure smooth operations. The platform has simplified, user-friendly, and well-customized categories for different goods and services, making it easy for clients to access. The company makes money from fees charged to sellers for using the platform.

Despite the challenges, Rakama believes that continuous innovation is necessary for growth and survival in the start-up arena. He is currently undertaking an online course to understand himself, come up with ideas, and turn them into reality.
