On July 17, 2020, Archbishop Anthony Muheria, the Chairperson of the National Interfaith Council, expressed confidence in a smooth resumption of congregational worship on Sunday, citing adequate measures to ensure the safety of worshippers.
During a courtesy call on Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia in Ol Kalou, Archbishop Muheria outlined the protocols to be observed, including limiting service duration to an hour and excluding the elderly and children from worship places.
He emphasized that church elders would be held liable if the rules were not followed, and urged every individual to take responsibility for observing the rules.
“Do not let your old parents die just because of your ignorance. Observe every rule set by the government,” Archbishop Muheria said.
Meanwhile, Governor Kimemia cautioned political leaders against holding campaigns in churches and mosques, as this would attract large numbers of supporters and violate regulations restricting gatherings to 100 worshipers.
