On Thursday, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) announced the appointment of Mucai Kunyiha as its new National Chairperson, effective for a two-year term.

Mr. Kunyiha, who has served as Vice Chair since July 2018, succeeds Sachen Gudka, whose term has come to an end. As PET Sub-Sector Chair, Mr. Kunyiha played a key role in developing the Kenya Plastic Action Plan, a private sector-led initiative aimed at promoting a circular economy for environmentally sustainable use and recycling of plastics in Kenya.

Speaking at KAM's Head Offices, Mr. Kunyiha emphasized the importance of the manufacturing sector in Kenya's sustainable growth and development.

"The road ahead for manufacturing and the economy will not be easy. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is yet to be determined as it continues to unleash damage locally and globally. It demands big changes which we must explore urgently and diligently, including the development of rebound strategies and policies that will see the economy rebound and increase the sector's contribution to GDP exponentially," said Mr. Kunyiha.

As the new chairperson, Mr. Kunyiha will focus on advocating for coherent policies that support industrial growth, pushing for predictability in fiscal and legislative regulations, and supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through policy advocacy and championing Kenya's circular economy.

Mr. Rajan Shah, CEO of Capwell Group of Companies, has been appointed as the new Vice Chair. Mr. Kunyiha is a Lawyer and the Group Managing Director of Kzanaka Ltd, which includes Cooper K-Brands Ltd, Analabs Ltd, Mashiara Park, and Qaribu Inn.

The outgoing chairman, Mr. Gudka, will remain an Ex-Officio member of the Board, providing advisory support in directing the growth of the Association.
