On July 17, 2020, Omar Lali, the lover of the late Tecra Muigai, broke down in tears at the Garsen court after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) applied to have the case against him terminated.

Accompanied by his family, Lali was visibly emotional as he was freed from the charges.

The DPP had reviewed toxicological evidence, detailed postmortem reports, phone records, documentary exhibits, and witness statements before deciding to drop the case.

Tecra Muigai, the daughter of Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja, died in May 2020 in what was initially reported as an accident.

However, the DPP's review of the evidence led to the decision to charge Lali over Tecra's death.

According to reports, Tecra suffered cerebral oedema resulting from a fall on April 27 from a staircase at a house she shared with Lali in Lamu.
