Ghanaian Cop Helps Expectant Mother Deliver Baby in Car ¶
On July 16, 2020, Lance Corporal Emmanuel Kwamena Bartels, a Ghanaian police officer, made headlines for helping an expectant mother deliver a baby boy in his car while on duty directing traffic.
According to an interview with Kofi Adomah on Angel FM, Lance Corporal Bartels said he was stationed at the area to assist in directing traffic when the incident unfolded. He revealed that he saw the woman by the roadside crying for help because she was in labor.
Her husband had already gone to town to look for a commercial vehicle to transport his wife to the hospital to deliver, but he was delayed. Moved by compassion, Lance Corporal Bartels decided to help the expectant mother deliver her baby in his car.
People hailed the cop on social media for his kind act, and he received a great deal of praises for performing the duties of a midwife.
“While directing traffic, I saw the woman by the roadside crying for help and drawing lots of attention so I was moved to help her...” Lance Corporal Bartels narrated.
