On June 23, 2020, Kenyanbulletin.com published an exposé on the corrupt firm Tunasco, revealing its dark ties to KEMSA.
According to a reader, Tunasco's owner, Abdulwalli Shariff Ahmed, is also a director at Neo Science Africa, a company registered in 2019. However, the company has refused to pay staff salaries since March 2020, with some staff members being terminated without receiving their due pay. An ongoing case at the Ministry of Health is reportedly investigating this matter.
Shariff's reputation in tenderpreneur circles is marred by allegations of corruption and using underhanded tactics to win tenders. His 'untouchable' attitude, fueled by the power and money associated with his firm, has led to numerous complaints from residents and staff.
One such complaint involves the construction of the Sh200 million Oda Bridge at Bura Kofira in Garsen Constituency, Tana River County. The bridge, which was supposed to connect people from either side of the Tana River, was overwhelmed by floods while still under construction in May 2017.
Despite its poor reputation, Tunasco continues to win government tenders through questionable means, including coercion. The company's qualifications have been questioned, and its methods have raised eyebrows in the tenderpreneur community.
