On Thursday, Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai, was released from custody after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji dropped murder charges against him.
The decision was made after the office of the DPP called for fresh investigations into the incident leading to Tecra's death, which occurred on May 3, 2020, at their shared home in Naivasha.
Initially, Lali was arrested and charged with murder on Monday morning, with police and the prosecutor citing evidence gathered by investigators as the basis for their satisfaction that the death was not accidental.
However, the DPP has now dropped the charges, allowing Lali to walk free.
It is worth noting that Lali was initially arrested in connection with the incident before being released by a Lamu court on May 28, 2020, on a Ksh.300,000 bond following the expiry of a 21-day detention period.
Tecra Muigai, who was also a director at her parents' company, was laid to rest on May 16, 2020, in a private ceremony at the family's home in Naivasha.
