On July 17, 2020, Real Madrid secured their 34th La Liga title with a 2-1 win over Villarreal at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

French striker Karim Benzema scored two crucial goals for Los Blancos, with the first coming just one minute before halftime and the second from the spot in the 77th minute.

Benzema's first goal was a close-range shot from the right side of the six-yard box, assisted by playmaker Luka Modric's superb run of play.

Los Blancos maintained the slim lead throughout the first half, dominating play and failing to add to their tally.

However, Benzema doubled his side's lead with a penalty kick in the 77th minute, after Sergio Ramos won a spot-kick for the home team.

Despite a late-minute strike from Vicente Iborra, which reduced Villarreal's deficit to one goal, Real Madrid held on to secure their 34th La Liga title.

The visitors tried to get an equalizer in the last few minutes of the encounter, but their efforts were almost thwarted by the Video Assistant Referee, who disallowed Marco Asensio's last-minute goal.
