On July 16, 2020, singer Betty Bayo opened up about her tumultuous marriage to Pastor Victor Kanyari in a candid interview.
Bayo revealed that she met Kanyari three weeks before her introduction to her family, after her then-boyfriend dumped her. She jokingly asked Kanyari to pretend to be her boyfriend, and he agreed.
However, things took a turn for the worse when Bayo moved in with Kanyari and discovered that he was living with six women in the same house. The women had no boundaries and would often enter the couple's bedroom without knocking, leaving Bayo with no privacy.
Bayo also claimed that she had no power to make decisions in her house and that the women would often dress Kanyari without her consent. She even revealed that she was forced to lie in church on several occasions, including a time when Kanyari lied that their house had been robbed.
According to Bayo, Kanyari's mom was a major contributor to the problems in their marriage. She allegedly offered Bayo a salary of KSh 30,000 every Sunday to attend Kanyari's church, but Bayo turned it down.
Bayo's marriage to Kanyari ended in scandal, with Kanyari being accused of embezzling KSh 310,000 from the church.
