Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera Calls for 3 Days of Fasting and Prayer Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera has urged citizens from various faiths to come together and pray for the country's well-being amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement from the President's office, the country will begin a special period of prayer on Thursday, July 16, and will conclude on Saturday, July 18, followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 19.

As of Thursday, July 16, Malawi had recorded 2,614 cases of COVID-19, including 43 deaths and 1,005 recoveries.

"The President has asked all citizens from different faiths to come together for three days of fasting and prayer to seek God's intervention in the fight against COVID-19, and also to hold a thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 19," the statement read.
