Buying airtime for your mobile phone in Kenya has just gotten easier and cheaper, thanks to Tsenda, a new platform that allows users to purchase airtime for any network using Safaricom's M-PESA.

Launched in 2020, Tsenda has made it possible for users to top up their airtime for any network in Kenya, including Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom, without incurring any charges.

According to Tsenda, users can purchase airtime by texting the amount to the toll-free number 40512, and wait for the prompt. The platform works even when the user has no balance in their M-PESA account.

For Airtel and Telkom users, the process is slightly different. Users can create a text message with the number and amount, and send it to 40512. For example, for Airtel, the user can send 'A254733XXXX76#50', while for Telkom, the user can send 'T25477XXXXX76#50'. Alternatively, users can simply send the numbers without the country code 254, and the system will automatically pick the mobile service provider.
