Freedom for Omar Lali

On Thursday, July 16, 2020, Omar Lali and his family broke down in tears as the court declared him a free man, bringing an end to the murder case against him.

The court's decision came after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) requested for an open inquest to terminate the case against Mr. Lali.

Earlier, on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Mr. Lali was arrested by a Lamu Court on the belief that enough evidence had been found against him in the murder of Tecra Muigai.

However, yesterday, July 15, 2020, the DPP had ordered a mental assessment be done on Omar Lali to ascertain that he was in good mental state, fit to stand trial.

But today, the court set the 54-year-old Lamu native free after the DPP's request was granted by the High Court.

Following the good news, emotions ran high as family and friends took to give thanks and celebrate the special moment, welcoming the troubled man back home with hope to forever have peace.

As news of his freedom spread, social media users took to Twitter to congratulate Mr. Lali, with one user tweeting, 'Omar Lali will no longer be charged with murder.'

Another user tweeted, 'Omar Lali boyfriend to the late Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai is now a free man following an inquest by DPP Haji…the charges have been dropped and the case terminated.'
