On July 13, 2020, Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Tecra Muigai, was charged with murder at Lamu Law Courts. However, in a surprising turn of events, the Director of Public Prosecutions has stopped his prosecution and applied for an open inquest.
As a result, Omar Lali, who was arraigned at Garsen High Court, left the corridors of justice a free man. The decision was made via a video link by Principal Magistrate Allan Temba.
Lead prosecutor Eddie Kadebe and his colleague Zakaria Kiongo had stated that there was sufficient evidence to take Mr. Lali for plea taking. However, the DPP's application has now terminated the case.
Lawyers representing the deceased family lauded the move, saying that justice was being served to their daughter. On the other hand, Lali's advocate Yusuf Aboubakar vowed to prove his client's innocence.
