Committee Leadership Changes

On Thursday, the National Assembly held elections to fill vacant departmental committee chairperson and vice-chairperson seats.

William Kamket, the Tiaty lawmaker, has been elected as the chairperson of the Delegated Legislation committee, with Charles Muriuki Njagagua as his deputy.

Wafula Wamunyinyi, the Kanduyi MP, will now chair the Constituencies Development Funds committee, with Omar Mohammed Hassan as his vice-chairperson.

Ali Wario, the Garsen legislator, has been elected as the chairperson of the Regional Integration committee, with Ruweida Mohammed as his deputy.

Kanini Kega, the Kieni MP, will now chair the Budget and Appropriations committee, with Moses Lessonet as his assistant.

David Pkosing, the Pokot South MP, chairs the Transport, Public Works and Housing committee, with Gathoni Wamuchomba as his vice-chairperson.

Adan Haji Ali, the Mandera South lawmaker, has been elected as the chairperson of the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives committee, with Ruth Mwaniki as his vice-chairperson.

Patrick Makau, the Mavoko MP, will lead the Sports, Culture and Tourism committee as its chairperson, with Korei Ole Lemein as his vice-chairperson.

Other committee chairpersons and vice-chairpersons include:

  • Mathioya MP Clement Kigano as the chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs committee, with Otiende Amollo as his deputy.
  • Joshua Kutuny, the Cherangany lawmaker, as the vice-chairperson of the Health committee, with Sabina Chege as the chairperson.
  • Gladys Wanga, the Homa Bay Woman Representative, as the chairperson of the Finance and National Planning committee, with Waihenya Ndirangu as her deputy.
  • Busia Woman Rep Florence Mutua as the chairperson of the Education and Research Committee, with Wambugu Ngunjiri as her assistant.
  • David Gikaria, the Nakuru East MP, as the chairperson of the Energy Committee, with Gladwell Cheruiyot as his vice-chairperson.
  • Moiben MP Silas Tiren as the chairperson of the Agriculture and Livestock committee, with Catherine Waruguru as his deputy.
  • Paul Koinange, the Kiambaa MP, as the chairperson of the Administration and National Security committee, with Fatuma Gedi as his vice-chairperson.
  • William Kipkemoi Kisang, the Marakwet West MP, as the chairperson of the Communication, Information and Innovation committee, with Jane Wanjuki Njiru as his vice-chairperson.
  • Jeremiah Kioni, the Ndaragwa MP, as the chairperson of the Constitutional Implementation Oversight committee, with Peter Kaluma as his vice-chairperson.
  • Justus Kizito, the Shinyalu lawmaker, as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library committee, with Jerusha Momanyi as his vice-chairperson.
  • Maina Kamanda, the nominated MP, as the chairperson of the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity committee, with Gideon Mulyungi as his vice-chairperson.
  • Ezekiel Ombaki, the Nyaribari Masaba MP, as the chairperson of the Members’ Services and Facilities committee, with Swarup Mishra as his vice-chairperson.
  • Justin Muturi, the National Assembly Speaker, as the chairperson of the Committee of Parliamentary Powers and Privileges, with Kabinga Wachira as his vice-chairperson.

Some committees retained their top leadership, including the Select Committee on Implementation, Special Funds Account Committee, Defence and Foreign Relations, Environment and Natural Resources, Public Accounts Committee, and Public Investments Committee.
