On July 16, 2020, a dramatic turn of events unfolded in court as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions applied to terminate proceedings against Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai.

Following the application, Lali was released and set at liberty, marking a significant development in the case that had been ongoing since Muigai's death on May 2, 2020.

According to reports, Muigai was found dead at a private house in Shella, Lamu Island, where she and Lali had been staying together.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had reviewed toxicological evidence, detailed post-mortem reports, and phone records before making the application to terminate proceedings.

Earlier, Lali had been arrested in May and freed on bond pending investigations, only to be re-arrested on July 13, 2020, after an application by state lawyer Eddie Kadebe that the prosecution had gathered enough evidence.

However, on July 16, 2020, the DPP's application to terminate proceedings was granted, and Lali was released.
