On July 16, 2020, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) made a significant move in the world of Kenyan football by signing a Sh1.2 billion sponsorship deal with Nigeria-based betting firm Betking.

The deal, which will run for five years, is expected to bring in a significant amount of revenue for the clubs, with each pocketing at least Sh8 million per year.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa announced the deal at Kandanda House, also revealing plans to replace the Kenya Premier League (KPL) with a new organiser for the national championship.

According to Mwendwa, the new organiser will be a company or board approved by the clubs, with its secretariat based at Kasarani.

The deal is set to kick off in September, with the new season expected to start in October.
