On July 15, 2020, a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Special Service Unit and CR and IB detectives led to the arrest of four suspects terrorizing residents in the Central Region.
The suspects, comprising three men and a woman, had been kidnapping and robbing unsuspecting victims of their valuables.
According to the DCI, the gang would lure victims into their cars, beat them up, blindfold, and tie their legs and arms once on board.
Acting on intelligence, detectives intercepted a Toyota Premio with registration number KCA 376M, and the two occupants, 35-year-old David Kinyua Kairu and 26-year-old Jane Wanjiru Macharia, were arrested.
During the search of their car, seven mobile phones, several ATM cards, and KCJ 294B number plates were found.
It was further established that Kinyua had a pending robbery case at Thika law Courts, and Macharia had a pending murder case at Nanyuki High Court.
Further pursuit of the gang led to the arrest of the third suspect, 42-year-old Isaac Mwangi Wachira, at Githurai 44, and several ATM and ID cards bearing different names were recovered from him.
The fourth suspect, 28-year-old Moses Maina Ndegwa, who resides in Nanyuki's Majengo estate, was pursued and arrested along Sagana-Kenol road, and a Toyota NZE Reg. No KBR 196A was detained.
The second suspect, Jane Macharia, was identified by various victims, including one who was robbed at gunpoint on June 10, 2020, and her identity was confirmed through CCTV footage from a KCB ATM booth at Kenol.
