On July 16, 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Muranga, where two assistant chiefs and a police officer were caught engaging in a group sex scandal with a minor.
The administrators, one from Tuthu and another from Wanjerere, allegedly lured the 16-year-old girl to Aberdares forest, where they defiled her.
According to eyewitnesses, an elderly woman raised alarm after seeing the suspects disappearing into the forest with the minor, prompting villagers to respond swiftly and apprehend the suspects.
The 16-year-old victim revealed that one of the suspects had been trying to lure her with gifts in an attempt to make her succumb to his sexual advances.
Two of the suspects were arrested and handed over to the authorities, while a third suspect, also an assistant chief, managed to flee on foot, prompting a manhunt.
Area Police Commander John Ngare confirmed the incident, stating that investigations have commenced and assuring residents that justice will be served.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha strongly condemned the incident, which occurred during a surge in teenage pregnancies amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
