On July 16, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta reached out to the international community with a special plea amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a virtual conference meeting of European and African leaders, President Kenyatta emphasized the need for debt relief for African countries.
He welcomed the proposal to establish the Africa-Mediterranean-European (AME) Foundation, which he believed would complement existing continental cooperation in addressing emerging global challenges.
According to President Kenyatta, the foundation would help inject new ideas needed to scale up collaboration between Africa, the Mediterranean, and Europe.
He also emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating that the foundation should recognize the critical role of the private sector, academia, and civil society.
President Kenyatta's remarks were made during a meeting attended by President Macky Sall of Senegal, Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger, Mohamed Ould Ghazouni of Mauritania, and Roch Marc Kabore of Burkina Faso.
