On July 16, 2020, Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna hinted that President Uhuru Kenyatta may revoke the decision to allow the resumption of international flights amid the upsurge of Coronavirus (Covid-19) globally.
Speaking in Hola Town, Tana River County, Oguna stated that the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) was considering various measures to handle arrivals as from August 1.
NERC was weighing the option of recommending the borders to remain closed if new outbreaks emerge in foreign countries, Oguna disclosed.
Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna addresses the media at his office in Nairobi on January 4, 2020.
“Although a decision has already been made on the resumption of international air travel, it is not a surprise if the committee decides to rescind that decision depending on the situation at that time,” Oguna stated.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had earlier detailed that those arriving in Kenya will have to produce a certificate showing that they are Covid-19 free before being allowed into the country.
Oguna reiterated the requirement, adding that NERC was also considering a mandatory 14-day quarantine period for all arrivals.
