On July 14, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was scheduled to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to answer questions about alleged tender irregularities and misuse of county resources. However, she requested a postponement, which was granted until July 22, 2020.

The EACC has accepted Waiguru's request and rescheduled the interview to July 22, 2020, at 9:00 am at the Integrity Centre office in Nairobi. In a letter to Waiguru, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak stated, 'The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has accepted your request and postponed the date of the interview to Wednesday 22 July 2020 from 9 am at Integrity Centre office, Nairobi. Take note that EACC will not postpone the interview any further.'

Waiguru is facing allegations of tender irregularities, including the awarding of tenders to several companies in controversial circumstances. She is also being questioned about the use of KSh 10.6 million for travel allowances.

The MCAs have been critical of Waiguru's leadership style and have vowed to explore all available options to remove her from office or have the county government disbanded.

Earlier, a Senate committee had absolved Waiguru of impeachment but noted that there exists a 'well-orchestrated and complex web of corruption in the tendering process at the county government of Kirinyaga.'
