On July 16, 2020, Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi Mandela passed away in a Johannesburg hospital at the age of 59.

According to her son Zondwa Mandela, Zindzi had tested positive for COVID-19 on the day of her death, but it was unclear if the disease caused her death.

‘Simply by the virtue that there was a positive test, we are therefore obligated to function and work within the framework of the existing regulation related to such cases,’ Zondwa Mandela said.

He added that the family is waiting for the autopsy report before making any further statements.

Her funeral is scheduled to take place on Friday morning.
