On July 16, 2020, Deputy President William Ruto took to Twitter to address the recent changes in parliamentary leadership, which saw his allies lose key government positions.
As reported, the Orange Democratic Movement and President Uhuru Kenyatta's Kieleweke faction of Jubilee seized control of committees crucial for implementing the Building Bridges Initiative report, paving the way for a referendum.
Quoting the Bible, Ruto urged lawmakers to move beyond yesterday's events and work together for Kenya's progress.
"With the changes in parliamentary leadership, including committee membership and leadership now concluded, I urge all MPs not to be divided but to work together in serving the people," Ruto wrote.
He added, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for God, not human masters," quoting Col. 3:23.
The changes saw MPs allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga take key positions in committees, while those opposed to the report were either kicked out or moved to less influential positions.
