On July 14, a 16-year-old Form Three student was lured into Aberdare Forest by an administration police officer, who had asked to meet her near the forest.
According to the minor, the officer claimed he wanted to 'iron out issues' with her, and that the two assistant chiefs would be present to protect her.
However, the officer allegedly defiled the minor without protection, despite the presence of the two assistant chiefs, who were keeping watch on the roadside.
Residents who witnessed the incident stormed the scene, roughing up one of the assistant chiefs, but the other administrator and the key suspect managed to escape.
Police officers later arrived and rescued the apprehended chief, who was on the verge of being lynched.
The minor was taken to a Kangema hospital, where it was confirmed that she had been defiled.
On July 15, residents took to the streets to protest against the incident, accusing police officers of shielding their colleague.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha condemned the incident, assuring locals that justice would be served if it was proven that the AP officer had defiled the minor.
One of the assistant chiefs has been arrested, while the other administrator and the key suspect are being hunted.
