On July 16, 2020, former Kenya Pipeline Managing Director Charles Tanui and two other senior managers appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in a case involving a Sh30 million scandal.

According to the charges, Tanui, Josphat Kipkoech Sirma, and Elias Maina Karumi are accused of abuse of office, making documents without authority, and failing to comply with procurement law.

The alleged scandal dates back to February 18, 2014, when Tanui is said to have improperly conferred a benefit to Redline Limited by authorizing payment of 8,695 Euros for a tender without proper authorization, testing, and commissioning of the machine.

The three suspects are facing a total of seven counts and were released on a cash bail of Sh700,000 or a bond of Sh3 million each.

The court cautioned the suspects against interfering with witnesses in the case.
