On July 15, 2020, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Nick Mwendwa announced on Twitter that the federation had secured a Sh1.2 billion title sponsorship deal with a foreign betting company for the top league in Kenya.

The deal, which will run for five seasons, is expected to see each Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club receive Sh8 million per season.

According to Mwendwa, the deal is a significant boost for the top league, which has been facing financial challenges in recent years.

It is worth noting that Mwendwa referred to the top league as the FKF Premier League, rather than the Kenyan Premier League, which is the official name of the league.

The deal comes as the KPL's mandate to run the top-tier league is set to expire in August, and FKF has been eager to take over the responsibility.
