On July 14, 2020, a 16-year-old girl in Tuthu village, Murang'a, narrowly escaped mob justice after being allegedly caught with two assistant chiefs and a policeman in the Aberdare Forest.
The trio had arrested the minor for flouting Covid-19 regulations by not wearing a mask. However, the situation took a dark turn when the security officers allegedly demanded sex favors from the minor in exchange for her freedom.
According to Kangema Deputy County Commissioner Agnes Karoki, one of the assistant chiefs was caught red-handed defiling the minor while his colleague and a policeman kept guard.
Following public outcry, Karoki led a security committee to the village to investigate the matter. She revealed that one assistant chief and the policeman have gone into hiding and are yet to be traced.
The minor will be taken to Kangema district hospital for treatment and further tests. The police are investigating the matter after the girl was examined at the hospital.
