On July 16, 2020, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced a significant boost for Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clubs with a Sh1.2 billion five-year sponsorship deal with Nigerian betting company Betking.
According to FKF chief Nick Mwendwa, each KPL club will receive Sh8 million yearly for the next five years, with the first instalment of Sh236 million set to be disbursed in the next seven days.
The sponsorship deal includes a 5.5 percent annual increase in the first year and a 10 percent increase for the third to fifth years.
As part of the agreement, KPL management will be responsible for running the league, with FKF requiring them to relocate their headquarters to the FKF House.
FKF is also exploring the idea of starting the new season in October, pending government clearances.
Additionally, the federation plans to use the annual affiliation fee paid by KPL clubs to support the Women's Premier League, with an estimated Sh12 million per year.
