BetKing Takes Over Kenya Premier League Sponsorship

On July 16, 2020, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced a five-year sponsorship deal with Nigerian-based gaming firm BetKing, worth approximately KSh 1.2 billion.

As part of the deal, the Kenya Premier League will be renamed the BetKing Premier League, with each team set to receive around KSh 8 million per year.

The agreement marks the end of a two-year period of uncertainty for the league, following the exit of previous sponsors SportPesa due to government frustration.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa confirmed the deal on Twitter, stating, 'Yes! Back your game. It will be the Betking Premier League. Now you know.'

The deal is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the league, with the FKF and BetKing having been in negotiations for some time to secure the short-term future of the Kenya Premier League.

According to reports, sponsors for the third-tier league, the FKF Division One League, have also been secured.
